Using Taylor Swift we are aiming to target audience are girls between the age of 12 - 18 some even older. Some boys although a few tend to listen to Taylor Swift too. Taylor Swift is an American musician she well settled and known over there in America. At the VMA awards of 2009 she had a lot of publicity due to this incident.
Taylor Swift had already had a platinum album and was receiving an award for best female video. And this was the video that made her win this award. The song was called you belong with me.
After the Kanye West incident Taylor Swifts popularity grew. This made Taylor known world wide. We will attract our target audience by recording a music video that has teenager themes. They will be interested in our video because the song we chose has a theme of love which is common with many teens. Our audience will be able to see our video from networking websites such as Facebook and Myspace. They will be also be able to see it on Youtube.
Audience Theory
Audiences are not blank sheets of paper on which media messages can be written; members of an audience will have prior attitudes and beliefs which will determine how effective media messages are. (Abercrombie 1996, 140)
There is the 'Effect' model this is models tells us that the audience are effected my the whatever sort of media that they consume. People act a certain way towards beliefs, opinions, ideals and attitudes differently due to what they have read about that topic, seen on film, heard from a song e.t.c. Other theorists disagree.
Uses of gratification model, this time theorists were not asking how the media affects people but on the other hand how the audience was using the media. It shows that audience have certain needs and therefore consume certain types of media in which they choose to meet there needs.
We will be using this theory while targeting our audience because we believe love is something that many teens go through at this day and age. Therefore they will use the video because there is something in common with the video and what they could be potentially be going through and maybe something they are experiencing.
