The video of love story begins with a wide long shot of a school with slow music.
We then see Taylor Swift in a mid shot with her looking around. We then get her
POV looking at a boy. We then see close up of hands and faces together as the music starts to drop, the close up from different frames in the video in which they have Taylor Swift dressed in old fashion smart clothing since its a narrative of the Romeo and Juliet love story.
As she starts singing we see her in a different building castle like, dressed in old fashioned Elizabethan type of clothing. We then get mid shots and her facial close up shots to show her beauty. As she sings about a party we see her seeing a guy she likes from the school scene also dressed in Elizabethan time clothes like everyone in a party. As she says "see you make the way towards the guests" we also see the person she's singing about walking towards the guests in a narrative way.
As she keeps on singing the music gets intense and we see a lot of moving shots panning around her, moving shots from top to bottom and we also see birds eye view shots. As she sings "please baby say yes" we see the guy whispering in her ears as if he is saying yes. When she sings about sneaking into a garden we see her sneaking in the garden to see the guy with an Elizabethan type of light in a shot filmed at night. The song is narrative so they basically do what she sings. They director of the video had a very good choice of props because in the garden Taylor Swift with a horse just like Elizabethan times and statues of angels. The choice of costumes is very well chosen as well. As the music goes on and she is not singing, there are a lot of changing different types of shots from moving shots to close ups to birds eye view shots. When she sings the emotional parts she shows facial expressions and the mood of the song.
As the song is reaching towards the end we see her in the castle like house running across grass field towards the guy who is supposedly to be Romeo.
This is a classical love film shot many music video and love movies have this shot. The video then goes back to where she began at the school with the guy she was looking at coming towards her. The video then ends with her looking at the camera then the frame changes to when she was at the school with a close up of Taylor Swift and the guy face to face.
This video has Todorov's narrative theory, as were everything starts normal and there is an equilibrium. Then there is disruption and disequilibrium. Which later on in the video there is a renewed sense of peace and harmony. This is also known as classic Hollywood.
Taylor Swift: Change
This a another music video by Taylor Swift. Normally her songs are narrative or a mixture of narrative and performance. This one is a little bit different, this video for a song called change has performance through out.
The song starts at a very high tempo with close up of the building were the video was shot and then a close up on Taylor Swifts face. There is then a long shot to set the scene with her in the middle of a band as the beat drops. We then see close ups of the band. A close up on the drums and the guitar strings. There are few shots of Taylor Swift in slow motion as she prepares to perform.
As Taylor Swifts starts singing, we get close up of her face and long shot. When then switching shots between long shots, close ups and extreme close ups of instruments. When switching from angle to angle the technique used is fading and blurring, so we fades from one shot to another. There are a lot of lights to make the performance look lively and vibrant. Taylor Swift does a lot of movements and hand gestures because she is performing. There is a bottom up shot of Taylor this shot is normally used to make some one look big and on top of things.
On the part when Taylor is not singing she walks back to the drummer who is at the back of the set and start to gear him on. We get a close up of her head and she swings her head around. All this makes the performance entertaining to watch. There are also a few blur shots this are commonly used in performance videos. There shots from above. As the band hits the riffs the lights become more brighter and the band becomes even more lively.
As the video ends Taylor Swift looks direct at the camera and walks away then the video fades to dark.
