Magazine Adverts + Website

Our original plan was to create a webpage to market our prouduct. We succesfully created a webpage but we had difficulties in getting the page online. We needed to have a server and a proper domain name in which it costs quite alot to do so. Since we couldnt do that, we never gave up and went on with plan be which was producing the newspaper advert. We learned that in order to produce something you need to have everything planned well and can be catered for well before you start the creating procces.

Here is a link to the rest of the websites and there plannig stages:

Here is another newspaper advert me and Yanzu created. With the advert, we wanted people to be aware of the new product that we are producing (Marketing) . We used light and colors that stick out in order to grap the readers attention. On the bootom of the advert there is also an advert of the music video we have just produced and a screenshot of the video. The top of the advert we put a red triangle in the background with white text so the text sticks out and the red grabs the readers attention. The arstist 'Yanie Yang' is dressed in white matching with the background, on the right side of the advert.

Here is the magazine advert plan for the new single by Yanie Yang 'Id lie'. I used Adobe CS4 to produce this advet. On Adobe CS4 i used the gradient tool to get the color i needed for the advert. I then went on to add text in white so that the text sticks out.
This was just a Trial advert.

The rest of the adverts Created are on the link below:

Evaluation - Media Product

In what ways does your media product use, develop/challenge forms and conventions for real media products?
When we were planning to do our media music video we had to put a lot of research into music videos. We looked at different types of theories such as Toddorov's narrative theory, since our music video had narrative parts in it. We also researched about the type of music we were going to make a music video for. We then went on to do a research on Taylor Swift, her music video directors and her music videos. After doing all this research we had a concrete idea on what we exactly wanted to do. Taylor Swifts videos are mostly narrative and a few performance. We decided to do both narrative and performance.
We identified that most of Taylor Swift videos are narrative and some performance, by doing a part performance and part narrative we can reach out to more audience since its a mixture.
We followed conventions such as young boy and girl in love. On the performance of the music normally you would have the whole band we challenged that convection and only had guitars and a keyboard, we later on changed to guitars only since country music is normally played on guitars only.
On the subsidiary tasks me and my group partner Yanzu decided to do a CD cover and a webpage to market out new product. We decided to do a webpage instead of a newspaper advert because most people tend to go online to get information, more often than reading newspapers.
The webpage was designed by my group partner Yanzu, Yanzu did the webpage and i did the video editing. We both took part in creating the CD cover. The webpage is laid out in way similar to Taylor Swifts webpage. It has flowery backgrounds similar to Taylor Swifts page. We did a long research in many artists webpages. We were looking for things such as lay out and color schemes. We found out that webpages are great way in selling artists. Images used can be manipulated to make them sell the artists without even listening to any of the artist's music.

Although we created a webpage we also decided to create a newspaper advert for marketing. This was because we were not sure if the website was going to work properly so we had a plan b in place. The newspaper advert develops media concepts for a real media product. The layout form of the advert is supposed to cover half of a page and does not take all the space on the page just like any other magazine adverts. The colors and image chosen for the advert are supposed to grab the readers attention just like real media products.

Evaluation - Technologies in construction and research

How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?
In order for our product to develop, challenge forms and conventions of real media products, we had to use a lot of technologies in our research and construction of the product. We used Macintosh computers because they tend to be better in graphics and video editing compared to PCs. The Mac computers helped a lot not only on constructing the video but also in researching about our artist, target audience and what is required from us. In constructing the video the Macs are good at graphics and are very fast. Most music videos, films and documentaries are normaly produced and edited using Mac computers. We used imovie software to create the music video. At first it was difficult to use imovie but the more we practiced on using the software the better we became on using it. We also used Adobe Premier in the music video edditing, since the Macs were only available at school, at home I used Adobe premier. To be able to use Adobe premier I had to read a lot of tutorials and practice a lot beofre i got into grips with the software.
Due to all our work being sent electronically, Me and my group partner Yanzu knew it will be a good idea if we used blogger. We decided to use blogger because we were familiar with using blogger, we used blogger for our AS media project. All our work will be presented and evaluated using blogger.
We used digital cameras in takings shots of our shoot locations. We also used a digital camera in taking pictures of the artist for the CD cover. We then used Adobe Photoshop 6 for our CD cover editing. Me and my group partner Yanzu were familiar with the software because we used it for our AS media project when we had to construct a music magazine. We took many pictures and manipulated them using different tool sets on Photoshop. We used the magic wand tools in changing the eye colour and removing unwanted backgrounds. We used the magnetic lasso tool to cut out colours that were not needed in the pictures. The gradient tool helped a lot in changing foreground or background colours.
E-mails and text massages were important in making sure we were up to date with each other in the group. Instant messaging helped when we were not together but working on the same project this was efficient as-well because it is free. Social networks such as Facebook helped us get the right feedback we needed. We could simply upload our CD covers, videos and webpage and get feedback straight away, this helped a lot in researching because we were getting direct response from our target audience.
Video sharing sites were very important to us. Vimeo and Youtube are the sites that we used to get our videos online. Once online we were able to share them with everyone world wide .
My mobile phone became useful because it had a 12 megapixel camera in which could also be used as a cam coder. Which helped in recording feedback from audience who had just viewed our product the video could easily then be uploaded using bluetooth to the macs, edited and uploaded to the blog in less than 30 minutes, which is very time efficient. This helped us in getting feedback and showing the ffedback we recieved. A camcorder was used in recording the music video. We had to study and research a lot into Taylor Swift's music videos. We were unfamiliar with some of the effects and angles used in Taylor Swifts videos but after a while of learning we able to put them in our own work.
After finishing recording and edditing the video we put the video on a DVD and and showed to people in order to get feedback.
We used Dreamweaver to develop our website. Dreamweaver is a very complicated software to use but once you get the hang of it, its very easy to use. To add flash effects on the website and make the website look as proffesional as possible dreamweaver suited perfectly. Most of websites to day are made using dreamweaver, this is because dreamweaver is more interactive than html sites.
These are the technologies we used in researching, planning and developing our media product. Although some are basic, they were key making us archieve our work. The complicated technologies gave our work the right edge we needed in making our project look as proffesional as possible

Evaluation - Audience Feedback + Combination of main product and Ancillary texts

What have you learned from your audience feedback?
From feedback that we received from the music video by our audience. We understood that our product had real developed and challenged forms and conventions of real media products. Comments such as "It looks like a real music video" made understand that the video was produced to a level in which it could compete with other music videos on the market.
We identified that most of Taylor Swifts songs are too do with love and relationships in general. Most of the audience are teenagers or young adults and are faced with raltionship issues on a dily basis. To meet our audiences' demands we had to do a video which connects with our audience, to which we did.
Audience feedback also helped in picking the best CD cover out of all the CD cover we made. We did a survey on Facebook and Google surveys online, which helped us in making our mind. The cover that we thought was suitable, the audience feedback also said the same. Our teachers feedback was cruical because they knew what was exactly expected from us.
Here is what one of our audience had to say after viewing the video. We did not only ask about how good the music video was we also aksed for critisism in order to know what we could have done better if we had to do the video again.

Feedback from Penya Butoke on Vimeo.

Below is a link to my facebook account where i uploaded the video in order to receive feedback. As you can see the feedback was very positive. Some people who dont know me thought it was real music video.
http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1158368743#%21/profile.php?id=1310375044&v=wall&story_fbid=107837412581899&ref=mf
Overall the feedback was mostly positive. We understood the importance of feedback because these are the people who will be listening and viewing the music video. Out of all the people their opinions mattered the most. Due to feedback received we knew that we had made a video that connects with people who are experiencing the same themes we had projected on the music video.

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
Since we had to do two ancillary tasks along side with 0ur main product, we had to make sure they had a nice combination in order to market them well together. Since we was producing a music video we needed a CD cover for the track that will be featured on our music video. So that we could market this well and make sure everyone knows about our product we decided to create a webpage. A webpage was a good choice because most people tend to spend much more time online compared to reading newspapers or magazines. Both three of our products will suit well our target audience. This is because the video's theme is love and relationships, something commonly experienced by many young people today. A webpage is the best way for our target audience to get information about our product since they spend more time online compared to any other age group. The CD cover was suitable because we manipulated the image in order to captures our audiences attention.
All of our three texts offer brand identity because they are all have the same style and appearance the person used in the products is the same person. There are colors, signifier, narrative and genre in our products.
By looking at our audience feedback one can see the effectiveness of our products. Comments such as 'this is amazing' and 'i can relate to that' made understand that we had produced our texts in a professional way.
